I'm a software engineer with a mechanical engineering background. After graduating college, I grew my passion for design while working as a head brewer in the craft beer industry and as a lead solar technician in the renewables industry. I enjoy working with others and meeting new challenges with creative solutions. If you have a project you need help with or want to start something new, I'd love to contribute where I can. Just drop me a line.
I've always been interested in designing and building things. As a brewer the core of my work revolved around bringing things to life in a reproducible way. Whether I was coming up with a new beer recipe or building a homemade keg cleaner, there was always an opportunity for creative innovation and problem solving.
This continued in my work as a solar technician where I was constantly in problem solving mode. Fixing existing systems, making design changes to new systems, and improving the process by which I did my work. Implementing software based solutions was often a way to improve the quality and efficiency of my work, as long as it was designed well. Particularly in solar, poorly implemented and tested software was the cause of many of my day to day problems. Whether I was having trouble with a tech support ticket that got mishandled by the automated system or the monitoring software was producing a lot of data errors, I gained valuable perspective on how important well designed programming was and how much work went into achieving high quality results. There is something wonderful about creating a useful tool in a smart way that is reliable and high performing.
Whether I'm working on my motorcycle, sharing a new board game with friends, playing music, or working on code; A well made tool is a joy to use and a joy to design.
